Be Grateful

I just want to take this time to wish all our wonderful girls, and parents a Happy Thanksgiving,
and take the time to let you all know how overwhelmingly grateful I am to be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, to know the truth of the restored gospel, to live in a beautiful, peaceful, and abundant valley, to live within the boundaries of the most loving, supportive, and wonderful ward in the world (Afton 2nd), and to be called of God to serve our wonderful inspiring
Young Women!

You girls are such amazing, vibrant, sweet, loving, serving, compassionate, wise, and spiritually strong ladies!!

I am humbled to be near you and around you as you love each other, play with each other, teach each other by leading and example, and reach out to one another. You're strength and testimonies of the gospel help me to become stronger as well! I love each and every one of you and am so grateful to be part of your lives!

These words go likewise to the amazing ladies I serve with and the mothers of these wonderful girls.
What amazing examples you are to me!

Thank you all for being uniquely you, for sharing your testimonies and strengths and for forgiving my weaknesses.
I look forward to serving you all for as long as I can.

Here is a quote from Elder Bednar from last conference.

Let us be Rich in Contentment and remember to count our blessings everyday, for they are MANY!

Love,
Sister Koeven

Word of Wisdom

While I was studying my leadership training for work on Core Values this afternoon, I came across this little fact from the Samurai that I thought tied in great with
today's lesson on the Word of Wisdom.

Think about what Sister Ealey said about how our bodies are just the rubber-maid box around our spirits. Our spirits are who we really are and in order for us to achieve the goals of our spirits, we need our body's to work for us to accomplish them.

The Samurai teach: When your body is strong it will bend to your commands; when your body is weak you must give into its demands.

Think about how that relates to the Word of Wisdom.

Have a great week, Ladies!
We love you!

Personal Progress

Thanks Sister Walker for helping us get started on
Personal Progress Good works 3, 5, and 6.

What is the Challenge???

Be Actively Engaged in doing Good Works!

Pick one of these value projects or all three, do the required reading and look around you at school for someone who could use a little extra help, a little 'hello', a little smile, a little friendship.

If ye seek, ye shall find!

There are plenty of people around us each day that we can help!

Let us know next Sunday how you did on this Challenge!!!!

Love you, girls!!

Hastening the Lord's Game Plan

Has anyone else noticed how a lot of talks lately, not just in general conference, but in stake conference and in talks our missionaries have given that there is a major call for member missionary work and bringing the less active back into the fold.

I guess if everyone is talking about it
then we need to pay attention!!

It can be scary to reach out to neighbors and friends, even less active family members, but we know the Lord will pave away for us especially if we do the things that Elder S. Gifford Nielsen said in his conference address.

Let's all try this and see what kind of miracles
we will be honored to witness!
And remember to pray for them by name.

~Love Sis Koeven

Change of plans!

Hi girls!

I had the wrong thing written on the calendar when i made that blog post. Oops!!

We are not raking leaves tomorrow.
Instead we will meet at the Afton Civic Center at 6:45pm.

There will be an awesome speaker who will be talking about the Book of Mormon. It will be very neat and we hope to see you all there!!!

Sister Hink from our ward arranged to have these gentlemen come and speak! The second speaker starts at 8pm. If you can't stay the whole 2 hours no problem. You can slip out after the first speaker.

Please come! It will give us all some insights that we didn't know before! This is a community event so parents can come too!

If anyone needs a ride Sister Bagwell will be at the church at 6:40. Otherwise we will see you all at the civic center!!

Love you all,
Sis Koeven

Mutual Oct 8th

We are teaming up with the boys to do a little service project for the elderly in our ward. Come with a smile and ready to rake some leaves!!

Personal Progress

Thanks Sister Jensen for a great lesson on Personal Progress and how it can greatly enrich our lives, and help build a strong foundation of values in the gospel! We are so blessed to have this program that allows us to continually improve ourselves, grow closer to the Savior, and be a more Christ-like people.

Also, thanks for giving us a great head-start on Value Experience Integrity #3!
All we need to do to finish this Value Experience is:

1. Read Genesis 39
2. Read the Book of Esther
3. Read Daniel chapter 6
4. Read Acts 26

Then write in your journal about how these people demonstrated integrity (being true to who they really are), especially when it was not easy or popular or endangered their lives. Then when we meet on Tuesday at the Temple grounds, we can discuss your feelings about it to finish this Value Experience.

There is a lot of reading with this one, but I know you girls can do it. These are wonderful examples of how to be true to the knowledge the we are Daughters of God at all times, and in all things, and in all places, and that the Lord will deliver us and help us through anything as long as we stay true to that knowledge and keep our integrity!!! This is my testimony to you all, in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

Love you all,
Sis Koeven

YW in Excellence Nov 10th

Young Women In Excellence
November 10th

Just a friendly reminder to let all the girls and mom's know that we are planning YW in Excellence for November 10th.

What is it? It's where you get to show off all your hard work you've done in Personal Progress this year to your parents! (YAY!)

Each girl will need to choose one of their 10 hour projects to display and tell about at YW in Excellence Night. If you haven't completed a 10 hour project yet, no worries! Just choose one of the value's that you have passed off and show and tell us about that!

It will be fun to see and hear about all of the neat things you girls have been working on this year!!

So keep this in the back of your mind. You should have plenty of time to have something done by then!

Thanks girls!

September Theme

"Consider on the blessed and happy state of those who keep the commandments of God"
                                                                               ~Mosiah 2:41

The Theme for the month of September is: Commandments

I found a really great article on the youth page of lds.org titled "Steps to Happiness" that explains the role of the Lord's commandments in our lives. It is short, simple, and to the point, well worth the read! And girls, if you aren't visiting the youth page of lds.org, I recommend it. It's a great resource for you to learn more about the gospel principals that you are being taught this year! Here is a paragraph from the article, but I recommend you reading the article in full here.

"At times, some people get confused, thinking that the commandments are restrictions or limitations that complicate life, that take away opportunities or happiness or the pleasures of life. In reality, the commandments protect us and guide us to happiness. They are not to restrict but rather to make possible—to allow us to achieve in this life and in the next—what we truly desire and what our Heavenly Father, who loves us, wants for us."
